| How to join with United
Devices |
| Getting started is easy. You
can read the FAQ
on how to get started and the complete United
Devices Team Discovery FAQ. This is probably
the best way and I definitely recommend this
instead of my sketchy instructions! And remember,
this isn't the home of Team Discovery, it's
just the stats page so don't forget to visit
our home at broadbandreports
or dslreports.
If you just want a super quick guide, here's
what you should do.
- Go to this page
and download the United Devices client.
- Install the program.
- Start the program.
- Now, go to this page
and click "Join this team". Now
you're a team member!
- See the Secondary Steps
Below.

If you just want a super quick guide, here's
what you should do.
- Go to this page
and download the TSC client. If you are using
Windows, the first link at the top of this
page is what you want to click (it says Windows
98/2000/NT/ME/XP).
- Install the program.
- Start the program.
- In the next window, you will be asked to
enter your email address. You need to be connected
to the internet while completing this step.
- Once the program starts, it will start downloading
work units which can take some time if you
have a slow connection.
- Now, go to this page
and to create your account. It will ask for
a node id which can be found at the upper
right corner of the program that you downloaded.
- Next go here
to sign in and then here
to sign up with Team Discovery. Just click
on the image that says "Join Team".
You are now a member!
- Finally, go here
and click on "Add node", then on
the following page, click "add"
by the node(s) you want to add to Team Discovery.
Phew!
- See the Secondary Steps
Below.

- If you're not already a member of broadbandreports.com/dslreports.com
you probably want to signup here.
It's free and it's one of the best sites on
the net. Especially the forums
and the Team
Discovery Forum.
- Sit back and let your computer crunch! You
can use your computer as you normally do and
you'll notice no difference because the program
only works when your computer has nothing
better to do.
- After your first workunit has completed
you'll most likely find a welcome message
at the Team
Discovery Forum the following morning
and your stats will start showing up here
a day later. You'll find more instructions
here such as how to get a cool spinner
by your username, how to add your name to
the roster, the birthday list and more.
- A work unit typically takes between an hour
for really fast computers and a day for really
slow computers for the United Devices program.
For TSC, you'll finish anywhere from 10 to
100 work units in a day.
- If you have more computers, go back to step
1!
- I would recommend not running the United
Devices client as a screen saver and having
a blank screen saver. Screen savers use a
lot of processing power. I have no screen
saver and just have my monitor turn off after
10 minutes of no use. If you need help with
this, feel free to email
me.
- If running the TSC client, make sure you
go into the options and unselect "Launch
Main Window at Startup" if it's checked.
Also, make sure you minimize the program by
clicking on the "X" on the top right
of the program. If it's sitting in your notification
area (by the clock) and not in your task bar,
your good to go. It can slow things down when
it's only minimized by clicking on the "-"
and not the "X".
- Once again, I recommend reading the FAQs
mentioned above.
